Stations without "platform doors" to prevent fall accidents To consider safety measures Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism October 9, 6:49

Of the railway stations nationwide, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has decided to consider safety measures to prevent accidents for the visually impaired for stations that do not have platform doors to prevent falling accidents.

Station platform doors are being installed mainly in stations with more than 100,000 users per day, but construction is time-consuming and costly, and installation was completed nationwide as of the end of March. It stays at about 10% at the station.

In July, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced the safety of stations without platform doors, as a visually impaired man fell at a station without platform doors and was hit by a train and died. We will start discussing countermeasures with railway companies from the 9th.

At the study group, a new initiative was made to automatically detect a person who is about to fall on the railroad track with a camera installed on the platform and notify the station staff. Examples of preventing falls will be introduced.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism plans to put together concrete accident prevention measures by March next year by listening to opinions from representatives and experts of visually impaired groups.
