TEPCO Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant Unit 7 Safety Measures Construction Site Opening October 9 6:38

Regarding Unit 7 of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station in Niigata Prefecture, on the 8th, TEPCO unveiled the site of the safety measures work for Unit 7, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

At the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant, Units 6 and 7 passed the examination of the regulatory standards required for restarting three years ago, and the national examination such as the construction plan for safety measures is currently underway.

On the 8th, the "Emergency Response Center" was opened to the public at the site of the safety measures construction of Unit 7, which will be the base for responding in the event of an emergency.

It was explained that the room was made airtight so that it would not be affected by radioactive substances, and that satellite phones were placed in a metal box that is resistant to shaking and shock and stored under the floor.

In addition, the construction of the entrance to bring in large materials was also made public, and it was explained that the ground was improved as a measure against liquefaction.

The safety measures for Unit 7 are expected to be completed in December, about three months behind the original schedule.

In addition, even after the construction work and the national examination were completed, there was still a procedure called "pre-use inspection" in which nuclear fuel was put into the reactor to finally confirm the performance of the nuclear power plant, and TEPCO moved the reactor. I hope to complete the inspection that can be done without it by April next year.

However, the pros and cons of Unit 7 of re-running, verification results and the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant prefecture advances, requires the consent of local governments who received it, the prospect of re-operation does not have standing.
