The school administration promises that it is doing everything it can to "break the chain of contamination".

INSA Rennes has to deal with a fairly large number of positive cases for the coronavirus among its students.

Tuesday noon, 88 cases of positive students had been recorded in the ranks of the Rennes engineering school.

From September 28, the teaching of second and fourth year students had been switched to distancing until Friday, October 9.

The same decision was taken on September 25 for the 44 students enrolled in the first year of the INSA Sciences po stream.

Sixty-eight students are still in their fortnight.

According to the school administration, "the chains of contamination seem to originate in a private circle and within the residences of the campus" and not in the classrooms.

"A few situations of INSA staff, exposed in their private sphere, were identified as contact cases, but all the tests carried out were found to be negative", specifies the National Institute of Applied Sciences.

Capacity already halved

The school management also defends its anticipation of the health situation, citing the establishment of "solid rules and procedures" to fight against the spread.

Since the start of the school year, INSA has put in place a set of solid rules and procedures to respond to changes in the health situation.

"Reception capacity of teaching spaces reduced by half from the start of the school year, application of sanitary measures in teaching rooms, physical distancing, wearing a mask compulsory in all circumstances on campus, application of barrier gestures, reinforced cleaning, support and monitoring of students in conjunction with the health authorities ”.

A screening center could be set up within the school in partnership with the Regional Health Agency.

A similar cluster struck the Rennes School of Business two weeks ago, forcing the business school to close its doors.

Part of the medicine sector at Rennes 1 University had also been affected by the Covid-19 epidemic.
