The bellowing of the deer has become in recent years one of the great attractions for nature lovers and the

Cabañeros National Park

(Ciudad Real) is considered the best auditorium in Spain where you can enjoy listening to the bellows of deer.

The more than 42,000 hectares of land in this protected area located in the center of the Iberian Peninsula and its 8,000 hectares of raña host during the months of September and October one of the highest known densities of this animal.

The so-called

Spanish Serengeti,

where the pastures are dotted with holm oaks and gall oaks, gathers

more than 3,500 specimens,

which is an unbeatable opportunity to recreate listening to the howls of the great Hispanic ungulates.

The bellowing coincides with the biological cycle of the

mating

of this species, when these specimens are used thoroughly to cover the largest number of females possible to guarantee the transfer of their genes.

FIGHTING TO DEFEND HAREM

The thunderous bellowing helps the male maintain his

arousal level

, allowing them to cover a good number of females that he has previously gathered in the harem.

"It is quite a spectacle to see the imposing animals permanently defend their females with their

aggressive instincts,

which means that no one else dares to enter their territory," says the director of the Cabañeros National Park, Ángel Gómez.

Who adds that "that sense and

impulse to be unique

leads them to fight with other males, starring in fierce fights to defend their harem, until they get away from the place (...) and it is, without a doubt, one of the most expected by the

thousands of visitors

who come to the national park these days ".

Cabañeros, with 42,000 hectares, is known as the Spanish Serengeti.

Visitors who are not disappointed and who confess to being impressed by how the bellowing of these deer are capable of composing a

magnificent symphony

, which is unforgettable when heard in a unique ecosystem such as Cabañeros.

This is how David López describes it, a man from Madrid who last weekend decided to enjoy, together with his family, inland tourism in the Cabañeros National Park and who confesses that for them the bellowing has been a "very special discovery" because never before they had been able to see so many deer together or hear them in mating season.

ROUTES IN 4X4 EVERY DAY

Neither the pandemic nor the mobility restrictions are being noticed these days in the influx of visitors to the park, which is receiving all those who choose an open space and outdoors to escape from the large urban centers.

The bellowing coincides with the biological cycle of the mating of this species.

The director of the National Park has commented that the specialized company that is in charge of carrying out

routes in off-road vehicles

throughout the year (23 euros / adult, 18 euros / child), has increased its offer these months so that there can always be places available to throughout every day of the week.

Some visits that this year, Ángel Gómez stressed, are made with all the health security measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and that, likewise, have been taken in all visitor centers open to the public to

guarantee their safety .
