An Iraqi company offers to pay employees' salaries with cement instead of cash

The General Cement Company in Iraq revealed its intention to spend 5 tons of cement to its employees instead of their back salaries.

The document issued by the Ministry of Industry showed that the company will provide cement to employees who wish to do so at its official price, provided that an amount of 50,000 Iraqi dinars (about 42 US dollars) is deducted per month from the employee’s salary.

Bloggers circulated this document widely on social media, attaching sarcastic phrases and others indicating the deteriorating conditions that the country reached under failed governments, according to the comments.

For its part, the Ministry of Industry announced the formation of a fact-finding committee on this issue, and the director of media at the ministry, Mortada Talib, said in press statements that the director of the Iraqi Cement Company issued the document, on Monday, before it was canceled on the same day.

Taleb indicated that the ministry formed an investigation committee in this regard
