• LEAGUE Antigen tests reach football

A rapid antigen test at the door of a concert:

only 15 minutes for a positive or negative

.

Demonstrating the reliability and safety of these SARS-CoV-2 antigen detection tests would change cultural and leisure life in the midst of a pandemic.

That is what the clinical trial to be carried out by the Foundation against AIDS and Infectious Diseases and the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital together with Primavera Sound is proposing: a

pilot test of a concert with more than 1,000 people

in the Sala Apolo in Barcelona.

A concert will be held at the end of October (neither the date nor which group will play has been specified) which will be a first step to verify whether these rapid tests have the ability to diagnose in the same way as PCR.

A concert

without a distance of two meters but with a mask

, which can only be removed when a drink is consumed and at specific points intended to do so.

"It will not be like a prepandemic concert, it would be an unnecessary risk," admitted

Boris Revollo,

a specialist doctor of the Fight Against AIDS Foundation at Hospiral Germans Trias, when he explained the study in a radio interview on Rac 1. Masks and hydroalcoholic gel will be obligatory.

"It would be the first time we would implement this strategy, so we cannot be lax with security measures," he added.

How will this pilot test work?

Throughout the day of the concert,

rapid antigen tests

will be carried out

on all

participants.

Only those who test negative and whose health questionnaire rules out people with symptoms compatible with COVID-19 or with previous pathologies susceptible to a poor prognosis of the disease in case of contracting the virus will only be able to access the Apollo.

At the same time, before the doors are opened, a

PCR test will

be carried out

on half of the participants,

which will allow evaluating the effectiveness of rapid tests as a screening strategy in events with a large influx of people.

Eight days after the concert, a rapid antigen test will be performed on all attendees and a new PCR test will be performed on the participants who have already been performed.

Regarding the results of the tests carried out eight days after the event,

those who test positive will undergo exhaustive medical monitoring

at the Foundation's facilities within the framework of the clinical study.

And those who test negative will have to answer a symptom questionnaire 10 days after the event.

The results of this pioneering study, which has not been carried out in any other country, could help

determine safe leisure spaces

for concerts, large theatrical shows or football matches.
