  • The diocese of Lyon said on Monday that the copyright, which it will collect for the sale of Cardinal Barbarin's book, will be donated to the victims of pedophile priests.

  • The request was made by the president of the Parler et Revivre association.

  • The former prelate has released a book in which he gives his truth about the Preynat affair.

A few days later, his request was granted.

The royalties collected on the book of Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, in which he returns to the case of Father Preynat, will be donated to the victims of sexual assault, we learned this Monday from the diocese of Lyon.

This request was made on Thursday when the prelate's book - entitled

In my soul and conscience

- was released by the president of the Parler et Revivre association, Olivier Savignac.

"I would like the profits from his book to go to victims' associations," he said on France Info.

"Cardinal Barbarin, if he wants to help the victims, he can do it thanks to his book, by donating the profits", Olivier Savignac continued.

"I do not touch any copyright"

Asked Monday on RTL, the Archbishop Emeritus of Lyon, now chaplain in Brittany, said that the copyright on his book went to the diocese of Lyon.

“I don't touch anything at all, I don't touch any copyright since I write books.

Everything I have signed is signed by my diocese and the money goes to the diocese, so it does not concern me (…) There is no benefit for me ”, said the cardinal.

"It is up to the diocese of Lyon to see (...) Today the diocese of Lyon has a lot to compensate the victims (...) If the diocese takes this money for that, it will be very good", he added .

Questioned in the wake by AFP, the diocese of Lyon replied that it would reverse the rights in question.

“What the cardinal proposes, we will do.

It seems normal to us that copyright should go to the victims, ”said a spokesperson.

"This is good news," said Olivier Savignac in return.

The victims are waiting for "actions"

"Now, we are waiting for action because in the Church the word is often put forward", added the one who sat among the victims at the trial of Father Pierre Castelet, convicted of sexual assault in the fall of 2018 in Orléans .

In January in Lyon, Philippe Barbarin was released during his appeal for non-denunciation of sexual assault.

He was sentenced at first instance, in 2019, for his silences on the abuses of Father Preynat.

The prelate resigned from his post as archbishop in March.
