  • In Salles, in the Tarn, an Ehpad will welcome from next week only patients who test positive for Covid-19.

  • This first dedicated nursing home will allow around fifteen residents to observe their fortnight and to avoid the spread of the virus in their home retirement home.

  • This experiment, which will last three months, is a first in the Occitanie region.

They can eat at the table, walk around the residence instead of being confined to their rooms.

From next week, a new kind of residence will see the light of day in Salles-sur-Cérou, in the Tarn.

Dedicated to closure, the Coustil rest home will remain open to accommodate around fifteen residents who tested positive for Covid-19 in their nursing home.

This experiment, the first of its kind, was launched by the Occitanie Regional Health Agency in collaboration with the Cordes-sur-Ciel retirement home and the Tarn department.

As soon as the resident of an Ehpad in the sector tests positive for the coronavirus, if he is little or asymptomatic, he can be accommodated in this structure while he is refreshed and is no longer contagious.

Avoid chain contamination

“Our goal is to streamline the health system and improve the quality of care for the elderly.

In the spring, all hospital surgical operations were deprogrammed to manage Covid cases, this is no longer the case today and there is strong pressure on the beds ”, indicates Abderrahim Hammou-Kaddour, departmental delegate of the 'Regional health agency in the Tarn.

For this manager, it is also a means of "protecting caregivers".

“We also know that the most complicated in an nursing home is the risk of chain contamination.

If we can extract a resident temporarily, it allows staff to breathe and also welcome hospital discharges again, ”he continues.

This new device, at a cost of 120,000 euros, will be tested for three months and will be supervised by a specialized team comprising a coordinating doctor, but also several nursing aides, nurses and psychologists.

At each temporary transfer, residents and families will be consulted beforehand.
