"Arab Voices" at the Frankfurt Book Fair
Arab writers and writers are awaiting the launch of the new and extraordinary session of the Frankfurt Book Fair this year, waiting to win the opportunity to translate their work into foreign languages as part of an ambitious program aimed at promoting translation from Arabic in the global markets.
The most prominent international exhibition in the field of printing and electronic publishing is holding its online activities from 14 to 18 October, due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The exhibition included among its activities a program entitled "Arab Voices", which is a project funded by the European Union and the product of a partnership between the European Union delegation in Cairo and the Union's cultural institutes in Egypt, with the aim of strengthening the European-Egyptian cultural participation as a driving force for sustainable social and economic development.
The Egyptian publisher Sherif Bakr, the program's coordinator, said in a statement that an independent jury had chosen a list of 32 works based on the publishers ’nominations for translation into international languages, after several sessions that took place through the Zoom app.
The selected list includes 13 works for women and 19 works for men, the most prominent of which are the novels (The Cross of Musa) written by Haitham Dabour, (The Wills) by Adel Ismat, (The Coptic House) by Ashraf Al Ashmawy, and (Atif Camellia) written by Noura Naji. And (French Clouds) written by Duha Asi, and (Rhythm) written by Wagdy Al-Kumi.
An independent jury selected a list of 32 works.
