The bad weather and the floods which ravaged several mountain villages this weekend in the Alpes-Maritimes department, did not spare the Alpha loup park, in Saint-Martin-Vésubie.

The prefecture confirmed this Sunday shortly before 2 p.m. to

20 minutes

the "destruction" of this animal center open to the public, without further details for the moment.

An elected official says that “wolves are free”.

Denise Lieuche, the mayor of the small village of Lieuche, also president of the Association of pastoral municipalities in Paca, had alerted on Saturday on her Facebook account about "this very worrying information" received "from the prefecture".

She accompanied her post with a screenshot of a report: “Alpha Wolf Park completely destroyed.

The wolves are free.

Confirmation by helicopter ”.

Species that are not naturally present

Worried in particular about the herds, she demands that "the urgent and concrete measures which are necessary be taken by the services of the State as soon as possible".

Before the flood, Alpha Wolf Park was home to twelve animals, including species that are not naturally present in this area, including Canadian black wolves and three arctic wolves.

At midday, the many rescue services engaged in the valleys of Tinée, Vésubie and Roya, were still looking for the eight officially missing people and ten others "who have not given any news".
