Concert.Popotxo the Great
Interview. 40 years of Orquesta Mondragón
Pedro Ayestarán 'Popocho', the mythical 'silent actor' of the Orquesta Mondragón, died this Saturday at the
age of 69.
A relative found him fainting at his home and was taken to the Donostia Hospital Emergency Room.
There his death was certified by a cardiac arrest suffered while he slept.
Popocho became an icon in the Basque Country as a
'silent actor' in the Orquesta Mondragón.
With memorable performances on TVE since the 70s, the Mondragón Orchestra has 14 albums, four compilations and countless performances.
"The history of the Orquesta Mondragón has been a bit of
my story. And in that sense, I have not had to pay many bills, as far as regards music with other people. He enjoyed great friends with excellent partners,
with professional musicians, with Popotxo Ayestaran as a magnificent actor ...
It was a bit of my soundtrack, "Javier Gurruchaga evoked for EL MUNDO.
