France has recorded 12,148 new cases of coronavirus detected in 24 hours, according to the latest official figures released on Friday.

Depending on their results, Paris and several metropolises could move into maximum alert zone in the face of the progression of the Covid-19 epidemic.

This figure is down slightly from those of Thursday, when 13,970 new cases were recorded, and Wednesday (12,845).

At least 32,155 people have died from Covid-19 since the start of the health crisis in March, i.e. 136 new deaths recorded in 24 hours, including 48 in hospital, according to figures published Friday on the sites of Public Health France and government.

255 clusters in retirement homes

Some 1,276 people were hospitalized in intensive care in serious condition, 11 more than the day before, out of a total of 6,758 people hospitalized (+106 in 24 hours).

Over the last 7 days, 4,058 new hospitalizations were recorded.

The test positivity rate increased slightly, to 7.7%, against 7.6% Thursday and around 4% in early September.

1,246 cases of grouped contamination, or "clusters", are being investigated, including 255 in nursing homes.

Faced with the persistent upsurge of the epidemic, the government on Thursday granted a reprieve to Paris and several metropolises, which remain threatened with the same fate as Marseille and to switch from next week to the maximum alert zone, synonymous with restrictions radical.
