After Eric Zemmour's comments on CNEWS assimilating unaccompanied minors to "thieves and rapists" and the seizure of the CSA by SOS Racisme, CNEWS and Le Figaro respond.

The two media indeed employ the man already convicted of "provocation to racial hatred".

The Minister of Justice Eric Dupont-Moretti publicly condemned the remarks made by the journalist.

Barely a week ago, he was fined 10,000 euros for insult and incitement to hatred, for comments made in September 2019 on Islam and immigration.

This does not seem to have changed Eric Zemmour, however, according to comments made on Tuesday in the show

Face à l'Info

 on CNews.

"They are thieves, they are murderers, they are rapists, that's all they are. They must be sent back, they must not even come," he exclaimed of the unaccompanied minors. .

SOS Racisme seized the CSA Thursday and lodged a complaint against the editorialist.

The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for "incitement to racial hatred" and "racist public insults".

Eric Zemmour, for his part, tried to qualify his remarks, while maintaining his idea in substance.

"A spillway of hatred" for the Keeper of the Seals

Several members of the government condemned his remarks, in particular Élisabeth Moreno, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of Equality between women and men.

The Minister of Justice Éric Dupont-Moretti, invited from

this Thursday evening, also did not mince his words.

"He is a multi-recidivist of hatred and racism," he said Eric Zemmour, recalling that this is not his first conviction.

"He who often speaks of recidivism has not heard the legal message."

The Minister of Justice then explained that Eric Zemmour's speech did not fit in with the mission of a journalist.

"I am indignant that we can express this", hammered the minister.

"For me, a journalist expresses himself in complete independence. He can commit ethical faults, he evokes public debate. But he does not do that. It is a spillway of hatred."

Reactions measured at CNEWS and Le Figaro

The CNEWS Editors' Society, where the journalist spread this speech, cracked a statement in which it dissociates itself.

"We condemn with the greatest firmness the remarks made", indeed indicate the journalists.

But, after two or three lines on the incriminated remarks, the rest of the press release does not question the presence of Eric Zemmour on the air, and consists in defending the quality of the work of journalists and asking viewers not to boycott the channel.

Joined by Europe 1, the management did not wish to speak.

The journalists stress that the comments made are contrary to the Code of ethics signed by all employees.

They regret that the previous call to order from management was not heeded.

And demand a new call to order.

Responsible CNEWS, according to the criteria of the Superior Audiovisual Council

Seized on Tuesday, the Superior Audiovisual Council (CSA) indicated that an instruction was underway and that there would therefore be no comment.

But

Face à l'Info

is no longer broadcast live, and the channel that runs the show before it is broadcast is considered responsible for the comments made.

Their distribution acts as validation according to the criteria of the CSA, which is not the case for comments made live.

This Thursday evening, Christine Kelly, host of

Face à l'Info,

raised the subject at the very beginning of the show.

Another excerpt from Tuesday's shooting was broadcast, where Eric Zemmour returns to the offending remarks.

"All unaccompanied minors are not thieves and rapists," he adds.

"But the responsibility of France and the government is not to take the risk."

Back on set Thursday, Eric Zemmour added a layer.

According to him, "we must fire all the isolated migrants, because we can not know which are rapists, thieves or murderers".
