After blowing up box office counters, will the Russo Brothers do the same with streaming numbers?

The directors of Avengers: Endgame, the feature film that broke the record for worldwide receipts, have finally chosen Apple TV + for the broadcast of their next film.

This is a significant acquisition for Apple, which after highlighting series for the launch of Apple TV + in early November 2019, is preparing to put several films online exclusively.

According to the specialized site

Deadline

, the group would have put around 40 million dollars on the table to ensure the exclusivity of

Cherry

.

Apple declined to confirm this amount.

Anthony and Joe Russo have directed four films in the Marvel series, including

Avengers: Endgame

, which grossed a record $ 2.79 billion in worldwide box office revenue.

With

Cherry

, they change their world completely, taking an interest in a former military doctor suffering from post-traumatic stress, who becomes dependent on opiates and starts robbing banks.

The film, starring Tom Holland (

Spider-Man

),

is scheduled to

receive a “limited time” theatrical release, Apple said, before being released on Apple TV + in early 2021.

On the way to the Oscars?

The action takes place in Cleveland (Ohio), the hometown of the Russo brothers.

"This crisis (opiates) has affected our families, so it's a very personal film for us," Anthony Russo explained in July 2019 during the Comic-Con festival in San Diego.

"Joe and I are now in a position to be able to bring films to fruition and we want to use this capital", said the older of the two brothers.

Even an early 2021 release could keep the film racing for the next Oscars, which extended the deadline for film eligibility to February 28.

Several other films acquired by Apple are expected soon, including On The Rocks by Sofia Coppola.

The platform has also committed to producing Martin Scorsese's next film,

Killers of the Flower Moon

, whose budget would be around $ 200 million, according to several American media.
