As the effects of the new coronavirus have been prolonged and the number of people struggling to pay rent is increasing rapidly, support groups are calling for the expansion of "housing security benefits" that provide rent to those who have lost their jobs on the 25th. I submitted the request to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

The "Housing Security Benefit" is a system in which the local government pays rent up to a certain amount to those who cannot pay rent due to loss of work, etc., and the number of payment decisions nationwide from April to July. There are more than 85,000 cases.

However, since the payment period is 3 months in principle and 9 months at the longest, there are concerns that the number of people whose payment period will expire without recovery of income will increase during the year-end and New Year holidays.

For this reason, on the 25th, a support group for people in need of living submitted a request to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare to expand and improve benefits.

The request requires that the maximum payment period of 9 months be extended to at least one year, the current payment requirements that are the standard of livelihood protection be relaxed, and the payment amount be increased.

In addition, the consultation desk of the local government is flooded with applications for benefits, and the staff are exhausted, so we are requesting a significant increase in the number of staff at the consultation desk.

Tsuyoshi Inaba, the caretaker of the "Network for Addressing Poverty in Homes" who submitted the request, said, "The effects of the new virus have spread to people who have never had a hard time in their lives, and many people during the cold season of the year-end and New Year holidays. People may get lost on the road. I want you to respond as soon as possible. "
