Hong Kong Research Association: 66% of Hong Kong respondents support the establishment of a health code system, and more than half think it is reasonable to implement a health code at the end of September

The latest survey results released by the Hong Kong Research Association on September 21 showed that 66% of the respondents agreed with the introduction of the health code. If the SAR government implements it as soon as the end of September, 53% of the respondents think the time is “reasonable”.

  The new crown pneumonia epidemic in Hong Kong has stabilized, and the SAR government intends to establish a Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao health code (hereinafter referred to as the health code) and a "travel bubble" system.

The Hong Kong Research Association launched a territory-wide random sample telephone interview on this issue from September 14 to 17, and successfully interviewed 1,129 citizens aged 18 or above.

  According to the survey results, more than 65% of the respondents respectively expressed “strongly agree” and “relatively agree” with the health code (66%) and “travel bubble” (67%) systems, and “strongly disagree” and “ Those who disagree with each other accounted for less than 30%, reflecting the positive reaction of most citizens to the establishment of health codes and "tourism bubbles" at this stage.

  If the SAR government implements the health code as early as the end of September, 53% of the respondents think the implementation time is "reasonable", and 28% think it is "unreasonable".

  In addition, when asked how much the implementation of entry-exit quarantine measures (health codes and “travel bubbles”) would help Hong Kong’s economy, 60% of the respondents thought they were “large” and “larger”. "Small" and "No" accounted for 29%.

The survey also found that a total of 42% of the interviewees believed that the entry-exit quarantine exemption measures brought "very" and "larger" risks to Hong Kong's epidemic control.

  The head of the Hong Kong Research Association urged the SAR government to make efforts to prepare for the policy before launching the health code and "travel bubble", including quarantine standards and arrangements at the port, management and epidemic prevention measures during visits to Hong Kong to eliminate Hong Kong Residents’ doubts about the relaxation of entry and exit restrictions and the gradual reconstruction of the confidence of foreign tourists visiting Hong Kong will enable Hong Kong to resume people’s livelihood and economic activities under safe conditions, and social operations will be back on track.
