The live performance of BTS' Tiny Desk concert was revealed.

'Dynamite' and'Save ME' and'Spring Day' sang three songs.

It was a stage prepared with the heart of waiting for a spring day with fans around the world.

This stage was a little different from the usual performances of BTS.

There was no performance that was shown with well-organized choreography, but it showed another charm with a stage that focused on the song.

BTS mostly sat down and sang, and it was a natural, comfortable and fun stage.

For this performance, it is said that BTS' existing songs were arranged to fit well with the live band's accompaniment.

As RM said, it was'Tiny, but not so tiny concert'.

Tiny Desk Concert is the flagship music program of the US public radio station NPR.

It is a'small concert' that Bob Boyleen started holding at the Washington NPR office in 2008.

Bob Boyleen is a broadcast producer who also worked as a musician, and is in charge of programs such as'All Songs Considered' and'Tiny Desk Concert' at NPR.

The Tiny Desk concert featured world-renowned musicians in various genres, including Taylor Swift, Coldplay, John Legend, Billy Eilish, Yo-Yo Ma, and Lang Lang.

These days, due to Corona 19, musicians are being held as'home concerts' at Tiny Desks held in their own spaces.

The Tiny Desk concert is a program made by an American radio station, but it has become a video content for performances enjoyed by fans around the world.

The NPR homepage is also posted, but there are also several performance videos that have recorded tens of millions of views on the NPR Music YouTube channel, which has 4.26 million subscribers.

NPR Music announced that the video of BTS's'Tiny Desk Concert' broke the highest YouTube view record in just 25 minutes on the first day of its release.

Producer Bob Boyleen "BTS, stick to the spirit of Tiny Desk concert"

I conducted a video interview with Bob Boyleen in July with the appearance of the Korean band'Whaleya', and at that time, I also told the news that I was promoting the appearance of BTS.

Producer Steven Thompson of NPR Music also posted in an article along with BTS' Tiny Desk concert video, saying, "We've been trying to close BTS' Tiny Desk concert for many years." Eventually,'Tiny Desk Home Concert' started with Corona 19. He said the work was going on.

He also introduced that the venue where BTS performed their performance was Hyundai Card's music library'Vinyl & Plastic' in Seoul.

Bob Boyleen revealed his expectations, saying,'A lot of people will be happy' while delivering the news of BTS' appearance yesterday.

In addition, after the video of the Tiny Desk concert was released, he linked the video to his SNS, saying that BTS was faithful to the'Spirit' of the Tiny Desk concert.

They said that BTS sang to the accompaniment of a live band for their debut at the Tiny Desk concert in Seoul, and they felt'music friendly' even in the space they performed.

How did the Tiny Desk concert begin, what the spirit of the Tiny Desk concert was, how the cast members were selected, who were Korean performers in the past, and some of the interviews I had with Bob Boyle in July.

● Concert

showing'a

new look different from usual'

Q. The Tiny Desk concert will be held at the broadcasting station office.

Why did you start this type of program?

A. What makes a musician's life special is that he always challenges.

Doing things you wouldn't normally do.

The idea of the Tiny Desk concert was to perform in a very'awkward' place, in the middle of the day in the sun, without a loud speaker to boost the sound.

In a way, it's a bit uncomfortable for musicians, so it sounds different from what you normally do on stage.

The audience sees a new look of the performer that they would not have seen elsewhere.

I think this is the charm of the Tiny Desk concert.

Q. Whose desk is it?

A. This is my desk in the Washington NPR office.

It's like a series of performances on my desk.

I played a synthesizer in a band called'Tiny Desk Unit' in the late '70s and early '80s, which is also named after that band.

Q. Do the performers like this format?

A. In fact, it may feel uncomfortable and weird at first.

We ask the musicians to show them something that they wouldn't normally want.

Of course, it will not always be comfortable, but after the performance is over, the performers laugh wide and are happy.

They enjoyed the challenge.

Q. What are the criteria for selecting performers?

A. I work at NPR, and NPR Music is made up of people with different tastes.

The'rule' of the Tiny Desk concert is to set up a musician on the stage that everyone at NPR Music likes.

They don't talk about popularity or cost.

The musicians who work with them trust and love become the main characters of the Tiny Desk concert.

We have many tastes.

There are both classical music lovers and rock music lovers.

The breadth of your favorite music is very wide.

Our rules have been working very well

● Korean musician at Tiny Desk concert

Q. Thing Sing first appeared as a Korean band, and Whale Ya also appeared recently.

How did they get to know?

A. In New York, USA, there is a music festival called Global Fest.

One night, 12 bands from all over the world appeared.

I saw Sing Sing there, and Sean Choi (referring to Sungwoo Choi, who runs a'sound agency' that introduces Korean music in the United States. Sori agency is a group of Korean musicians such as Black String, Noreummachi, Lee Hee-moon and Prelude, Ak Dan Kwang-chil, and Namu on the North American stage. I have introduced you) and became friends.

Sean helped invite Korean bands to the United States.

When I first saw Sing Sing playing, it was really good.

So I came right away and asked me to play.

In fact, I wasn't sure if Americans would like Sing Sing as much as I did.

But people really like Sing Sing.

The reaction was fantastic after the Tiny Desk concert.

▶Thingsing Band Tiny Desk Concert

Whaleya is also a band that Sean introduced, and Whaleya also loves it.

Their music is out of the ordinary.

There are elements of rock or psychedelic that are familiar to me, but on the other hand, they are like South American music, then African music, and also Korean.

It's like music from all over the world.

Listening to their music is exciting.

▶Whaleya Tiny Desk Concert

Q. Unfortunately, both bands were

attended

by Korean traditional music players.

Korean traditional music must be unfamiliar to foreigners, but how does it feel when listening?

A. I don't know much about Korean traditional music.

But I want to know more.

I like the sound of traditional Korean string instruments and percussion instruments.

It is very beautiful.

Q. Are there any other candidate Korean teams to appear? How about K-pop groups?

A. Actually, when BTS came to the US in May, I wanted to appear on our program. One of our staff has been promoting BTS appearances. However, the situation has changed because of Corona 19. K-pop has not yet appeared at the Tiny Desk concert, but we are crazy about K-pop. I hope that K-pop musicians will also appear. (BTS actually appeared at the Tiny Desk concert two months after this interview.)

● Expanded to Tiny Desk Festival and Contest.

Q. There was also Tiny Desk Concert Festival, please introduce

A. Original Tiny Desk concert was in NPR building. Since it is opened inside, the general audience cannot see it in the field. The Tiny Desk Fest, which is held for several days, allows people not working at NPR to watch Tiny Desk concerts. Audiences buy tickets and come to the broadcasting station to see the performance, and the live stream is live. It seems difficult to do this year.

Q. What is the Tiny Desk contest?

A. I have been doing it for 6 years. Musicians from all over the United States send videos of their music. One of the approximately 6,000 candidates is selected and given the opportunity to appear at the Tiny Desk concert. (6,000 people? It's hard to judge) It takes several months to judge.

● "I miss live music"

Q. These days, the Tiny Desk concert is being held as a'home concert', so when do you think it will be possible at broadcasting stations again?

A. We currently hold 3-4 episodes of'Tiny Desk Home Concert' a week. It's because I can't go to the station, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to do it again. In the US, the Corona 19 situation is not very good. You can't put people at risk, so wait for things to get better. I look forward to having musicians from Korea and around the world performing at my desk in Washington again soon.

Q. The music industry is shrinking because of Corona 19. What do you think of as a musician and music producer these days?

A. I have a lot of worries. Clubs and concert halls where musicians were performing are not open, so I don't know how long they will last. But'creative people' come up with something new when they run into a limit. Even now, there are new attempts little by little, and it seems that musicians playing ensembles through the Internet will be an example. But this is just the beginning. They will not stop creating, they will create new things. So, I'm sad these days, but I'm also excited about it. And I really miss'live' music.

Q. Tiny Desk concert is now a program that many music fans see in Korea. Did you expect this to happen when you first started?

A. Not at all. I never thought it would be so popular. And I didn't even know that a Korean reporter would ask questions about my desk. I am really happy. In Korea, many people watch Tiny Desk concerts, learn about bands they didn't know before, and many people in the United States learn about Korean bands, and listen to music that they would never have heard of. It's really cool and special. I think you are lucky.

Since the appearance of BTS, Tiny Desk concerts are becoming more popular in Korea. It seems that I will go back to the Tiny Desk concerts of BTS''small but not small' several times. While enjoying the stage that showed'something you wouldn't normally do,' you will discover the new charm of BTS. And we will look forward to the day when their'live' stage will be held. As before, on the day when the performance will be held again using Bob Boleen's desk in the NPR office.
