The second wave of

coronavirus

does not give truce.

The figures released this Monday by the Ministry of Health show

31,428 new infections since Friday

(the data are not updated on weekends), an average of just over

10,400 daily

.

After the record broken last Friday, when Health registered 14,389 positives in one day, today's report represents a

slight drop

in the number of infections.

Even so, this count has left 4,000 more positives than the previous weekend.

Of the 31,428, 2,957 confirmed cases have undergone the PCR test in the last 24 hours.

Most of them in Madrid (794), a community where today the new restrictions come into force in 37 health areas due to the skyrocketing number of infections.

It is followed by the Basque Country (368) and Navarra (362).

The official report has also registered

168 new deaths since Friday

, which are added to the global figure in our country, which already reaches 30,663 deaths.

Of course, this total excludes deaths in residences and those that, despite suffering symptoms compatible with the virus, did not get a PCR.

With a death date in the last week, 311 deaths have been counted.

Madrid is the region that accumulates the most deaths

in the last week (87).

Andalusia is in second position, since it communicates 51;

Castilla and León, 34;

Galicia, 30;

Valencia, 22;

Canarias, 16;

La Rioja, 15;

Castilla La Mancha, 13;

and Extremadura, 10. Likewise, Navarra confirms seven deaths in the last week;

the Basque Country, seven;

Cantabria, five;

Aragon, four;

Asturias, Catalonia and Murcia, two;

and the Balearic Islands and Ceuta, one.

Only Melilla has not reported any deaths

in this period of time.

Increase in hospitalizations

Regarding hospitalizations, with a date of admission in the last seven days,

Health notifies 2,293 (on Friday 2,485)

.

According to the official count, there are currently 11,031 patients admitted for the virus, 888 more than on Friday, when 10,143 were notified.

A third of them correspond to Madrid, which has 3,849.

Andalusia, for its part, reports 1,156.

Valencia and Castilla y León occupy the fourth and fifth places in the ranking of hospitalized patients, with 743 and 654, respectively.

Fernando Simón

, director of the Center for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health, has recognized this Monday that the increase in cases is real ("

We are in a very clear increase

and I do not mind calling it second wave," he said) and that it is being noticed in the hospital occupation and in the care both in primary care and in admissions.

Of the 11,031 patients admitted, 1,417 are in the ICU.

"Although it is true that

we have a significant number

of registrations, the number of admissions is not enough in all the Autonomous Communities," he acknowledges.

Although it is in Madrid where the majority of those admitted for covid are concentrated, in the last week it

is the Andalusian region that

has reported the

most hospitalizations

(446), followed by Madrid (296) and Aragon (248).

On the other hand,

156 patients have been transferred to intensive care

in the last week and 88 since Friday.

Thus, the patients who have required an ICU since the beginning of the pandemic already exceed 13,000 (specifically, 13,068).

Regarding the care capacity of hospitals, the average percentage of beds occupied by Covid, not including the rest of the pathologies, is 9.5% (on Friday, 8.7%).

Madrid exceeds the average and reaches 25%, a community followed by Castilla La Mancha (13%) and Aragón y Baleares (12%).

In the European scenario, Spain continues as the second country in Europe with the most infections since the beginning of the pandemic (671,468), only behind Russia (1,103,399).

They are followed by France and the United Kingdom, with 453,763 and 394,257, respectively.

Spain continues to lead in cumulative incidence (AI) in the last 14 days among the European countries that have registered the most infections.

Our country

reports 280 positives for every 100,000 inhabitants

.

France is in second position, with 186 infected.

Belgium's AI exceeds 100 infected and is in third place.

Restrictions in Madrid

Regarding the restrictions on mobility implemented since Monday in

37 health areas of Madrid

, Simón has said in his usual Monday press conference that

"they are a step forward"

although it will be necessary to consider whether some should be extended to others areas of the Community.

Regarding the possibility of closing the entire Community, the

epidemiologist has been cautious

and has indicated that its effectiveness will have to be seen.

In his opinion, it is important

not to overdo the measures

applied in this phase of the epidemic.

"If they have to be applied, I understand that they will be applied. And I understand that the evolution continues to be upward throughout the Madrid territory.

The measures will have to be evaluated day by day

.

"

Simón has pointed out that the

closure of parks

is due not so much to the risk of being in those outdoor spaces, but "because of the

associated risks

. The prohibition is more to

avoid groups of people

and children without respecting distances."

Regarding the capacity of the Community of Madrid to detect new cases, the epidemiologist recalled that this region "performs

2,097 PCR per 100,000

inhabitants,

more than double what many EU countries

do and we are sure that it is detecting a lot although we cannot know how much. "

More doctors

Asked if more doctors are needed to combat the covid in Spain, referring to the words of this morning by the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who assured that this country does not have "enough doctors and nurses", Simón believes that "yes the evolution of the pandemic continues as to date,

we have enough equipment

"although he has admitted that" in a situation like this "he would like to have many more.

From his point of view, "the first wave passed with many complications" and was overcome thanks to

"the superhuman effort"

of health professionals.

Likewise, he has been

satisfied with the "harmony"

between the Community of Madrid and the Central Government, which according to him, has shown the meeting between Isabel Díaz Ayuso and Pedro Sánchez.

Asked about his

criticized week of vacation in Mallorca

, where he filmed a chapter of Jesús Calleja's television program, Simón has declined to comment on them:

"They are my holidays and I am not going to comment on them"

, he has settled
