The Emmy Awards, the Oscars of television, took place on the night of Sunday to Monday.

But it was “Schitt's Creek”, a Canadian comedy series that made the event with seven awards.

“

Welcome to the Pandemmys,

” Jimmy Kimmel, the

emcee

, joked.

The pun did not make the audience laugh.

Normal, the 20,000 seats of the Staples Center were empty, coronavirus requires.

The nominees followed the ceremony from their homes, sometimes well dressed, sometimes less.

Often with their families, sometimes with their pets.

I understand that one can find it frivolous and superficial to organize the Emmys in full pandemic.

But you know what's so frivolous and superficial?

The Emmys!

Every year !

Jimmy Kimmel added.

And the Emmys goes to ... "Schitt's Creek"

But it's not every year that a series wins seven Emmy Awards.

A triumph for

Schitt's Creek

.

The adventures of the extravagant Rose family, who lost their fortune and moved to a remote town in Canada, have never broken audience records.

The low-budget Canadian series, airing on small cable PopTV and available on Netflix in the United States, waited until its sixth and final season to reign over the Emmys.

“

Our series is all about how love and acceptance of others can transform us.

This is something we need today more than ever.

So go vote.

This is the only way for love and acceptance of others to prevail,

”said Daniel Levy, who created the series with his father Eugene.

Another claim to fame, the series counts Sir Elton John among its most loyal fans.
