The
Royal Theater of Madrid
has suspended this Sunday a performance of the opera
'Un ballo in maschera'
, the work of
Giuseppe Verdi
, after the complaints of several of the attendees due to lack of safety distance between the public seats.
The play, which was scheduled to start at around 8:00 p.m., was suspended after protests by spectators, mostly located at the top of the theater, who considered that the corresponding health measures were not being followed to stop the spread of the pandemic. .
At first,
the work was tried to resume up to two times
and the overture of the opera and the beginning of the first act were performed.
Finally, the show was permanently suspended.
As explained by the general director of the Madrid coliseum,
Ignacio García-Belenguer
, in the previous presentation of the work, in the functions the choir has a distance of 1.5 meters of safety and there is a 30-minute intermission.
In addition, the maximum capacity is 65% (around 1,200 seats), despite the fact that the law allows 75%.
"The purpose of all these measures is to make people feel comfortable," García-Belenguer added then.
