The meeting between Sánchez and Díaz Ayuso scheduled for next Monday would be good news - a gesture of thaw between two ideologically opposed administrations - if it were not for the fact that it is late.

With his long inhibition after a hasty de-escalation, urged by the anxiety of the economic reopening,

Sánchez placed all responsibility for the management of the pandemic in the hands of the autonomies

.

Not even in the most decentralized countries in the world it is possible to defend the responsibility for such a decision when it comes to a pandemic, which knows no limits of competence.

In fact, the current law of Public Health of 2011 establishes in its article 52 the competence of the Ministry of Health when there are “extraordinary circumstances that represent an obvious risk to the health of the population”.

It has simply not been fulfilled.

In Sánchez, political calculation always prevails over the general interest in the event of conflict, so that the most densely populated metropolis in southern Europe and its autonomous region were left at the mercy of their particular capabilities.

Among those competencies was certainly the ability to acquire medical supplies, to hire trackers, to expand the medical staff, to strengthen primary care.

The government of Díaz Ayuso was not diligent in all these sections, and must be self-critical

.

When it reacted, the virus was already spreading again as a result of the rentrée after the summer break.

The mobility and concentration of people make Madrid an exceptional case that as such should have been dealt with from the outset, with a well-defined and coordinated plan between the Ministry of Health and the council.

But Sánchez's calculation, always attentive to image rather than efficiency, included disregarding Cs's condition of developing an alternative legal framework to the state of alarm, waiting for the deterioration of the situation to soften Ayuso and force her to beg him for help.

The price: the health of Madrid.

Days after the request for a meeting, Sánchez agrees to go to the Madrid government headquarters

to stage that he has to personally solve the problem

that the ineptitude of the PP is unable to solve.

The truth is that Sánchez, after negligent blindness to the January alarms (because the feminist ideological agenda prevails) and a severe confinement with a single command, presides over the country that leads the worst data of death, contagion and economic collapse in the two waves .

Blame it on the autonomies and citizen relaxation.

The worst thing about Monday's meeting would be that it was useless as well as being late.

There are concrete measures like those that Ayuso advanced yesterday that are going in the right direction, however uncomfortable they may be:

restrictions on mobility and commercial activity in 37 areas of Madrid

.

But there are others that, without reaching the alarm, depend on Moncloa, such as the PCR tests in Barajas, the collaboration of the National Police in complying with the restrictions, military support for tracking or the definition of an effective and legally secure health protocol .
