The favorite monument of the French is located in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

Or in any case the one who was designated as such in the program of Stéphane Bern.

This Friday evening was broadcast, on France 3, the third edition of the competition organized to accompany the European Heritage Days.

This year, 14 monuments were in competition, including the Saint-Nicolas cathedral in Nice, or the ideal postman Cheval palace in the Drôme.

After several weeks of online votes, and a major communication campaign on social networks, the Lion of Belfort, the work of Auguste Bartholdi, and the Citadel were named the winners of the competition.

The statue of the animal, built between 1875 and 1880, is installed at the foot of the cliff of the citadel fortified by Vauban in the 17th century.

It commemorates the city's resistance during the Franco-German war of 1870.

This victory should bring a renewed notoriety to the two monuments, and arouse the curiosity of the televiewers present in front of their television.

They were 1.64 million to discover the result on France 3 this Friday.

The previous edition, broadcast in 2015 and on France 2, had done little better with 2.2 million viewers.
