Fifty-four prison officers out of 350 in Bourg-en-Bresse (Ain) prison would have tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday, said the Regional Union Ufap UNSa Justice de Lyon on Friday.

Nine other people, working for the collective catering company Sodexo, would also be affected in the same establishment.

"As a result of this, reinforcements in officers, from Villefranche and Saint-Quentin Fallavier, will in turn be able to pass this disease on to their respective establishments", worries the union demanding that the prisoners also be tested.

No obligation for detainees to wear masks

"The detainees are not forced to wear a mask what is more, barrier gestures are therefore reserved only for personnel (public or private)", he denounces in a press release, adding that ten other agents would have been positive within of the Meyzieu prison (Rhône).

Last week, 13 positive cases for Covid-19 were detected among the supervisors of Bourg-en-Bresse, following an evening in which several agents had participated.

The regional prison administration could not be contacted on Friday afternoon.
