In an interview with the episode (9/17/2020) of the "Scenarios" program, Didier criticized the way in which French President Emmanuel Macron and his Foreign Minister spoke about Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, also criticizing Erdogan's talk about France.

Pune added that Macron lost a great loss in the Libyan file, after Turkey intervened in favor of the Government of National Accord, which is another reason for what he described as Macron's violence towards Turkey.

Pune explained that most European countries do not agree with the French track in the eastern Mediterranean crisis, considering that there are roles expected from each of the European Union, NATO, the United Nations and the United States in resolving this dispute.

Step up and down

Between escalation and reduction, the intractable crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean ranges between Turkey and Greece, the two countries that are members of NATO;

The alliance intervened to bridge the gap and put in place a mechanism to prevent a military confrontation between them.

As for the European Union, which has described Turkey as an important neighbor, it is preparing to hold a summit next week, devoted in large part to looking into the conflict.

After weeks of escalating tension in the eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea, messages of calm and openness to dialogue began to emanate from Ankara and Athens, and with it the European diplomatic machine began to activate to ease the severity of the crisis.

For his part, writer and political analyst Omar Faruk Korkmaz said that since the beginning of the crisis, Turkey has been keen on dialogue and communication with the other, unlike France, for example, which follows a "convulsive" line, while Germany has followed a good approach in seeking to resolve the crisis.

Korkmaz believed that the crisis can be resolved through direct dialogue between Ankara and Athens without preconditions, and without the intervention of a third party that increases the dispute between the two countries.

The university professor and a member of the Greek parliament for the ruling New Democracy Party, Angeles Serigos, agreed with Korkomaz on the importance of dialogue, but criticized the presence of Turkish ships to explore in an area he described as a subject of contention between Greece and Turkey.

Didier Bion, a specialist in Turkish affairs, considered that France had chosen to tug the rope with Turkey, believing at the same time that there appears to be a Turkish will to calm down.

Pune called on both parties to the conflict to compromise to reach a solution that satisfies all.

Regarding the trend for international arbitration, Serigos said that Greece had previously called to go to the International Court of Justice, but it is Turkey that rejects this approach.

On the contrary, Bion considered that direct dialogue should precede a step towards international arbitration.

Sanctions scenario

Korkmaz expressed his fear that the European Union would surrender to what he described as French incitement, believing that the EU's imposition of sanctions on Turkey would do the most harm to Germany, expecting it not to support such sanctions.

Korkmaz added that if sanctions are imposed on Turkey, Ankara has papers that it can use, calling for dealing with Turkey positively, and stressing that Turkish national security has priority even over the economy.

For his part, Serigos said that the eastern Mediterranean crisis is part of Turkey's problem with the European Union, referring to Europe's differences with Turkey over Libya and Syria, in addition to the refugee issue.

Serigos called on Turkey to stop what he described as provocative activities in the eastern Mediterranean.
