The fishing of "Tsugani", a crab with a characteristic autumn taste and scissors hair, is at its peak in the Shimanto River in Kochi Prefecture.

"Tsugani" is called "Mokuzugani" nationwide, and in the Shimanto River, fishing with a gimmick basket aimed at crabs descending downstream for spawning is now at its peak.

Yukio Takeuchi of Nishitosaekawasaki, Shimanto City, pulled up about 10 crabs from a basket about 60 cm wide installed in a tributary river.

The baskets are pulled up after one or two nights, and when there are many, five baskets can hold a total of 50 baskets.

According to "Road Station Yotte Nishitosa" in Shimanto City, which is the shipping destination of Tsugani, about 2 tons arrive annually and are shipped frozen and alive to Kansai and Kanto as well as the prefecture. ..

Mr. Takeuchi said, "Crabs will become tasty in the coming season, so please boil them in salt or porridge and eat them."

The Shimanto River's Tsugani fishing will take place throughout the next month.
