Saint-Nicolas will not parade at the beginning of December in Nancy.

The capital of Meurthe-et-Moselle announced on Wednesday the cancellation at the beginning of December of the traditional Saint-Nicolas parade, the culmination of the festivities around the patron saint of Lorraine which usually brings together some 100,000 people.

"The current sanitary conditions and security constraints require to adapt the organization of major events and the Feasts of St. Nicholas are no exception", considers in a statement the municipality.

The parade of floats and artistic companies with distribution of sweets and music in the historic center of the city was canceled in 2015 for security reasons, after the attacks in Paris.

The city, which wishes to include the festivities of Saint-Nicolas in the cultural and intangible heritage of Unesco, nevertheless promises that "the magic will be there" during the 40 days of celebration of the secular ancestor of Santa Claus.

This Wednesday, another large-scale event was canceled in the Grand Est.

Reprogrammed at the beginning of October, the Grande Braderie de Strasbourg will not take place.
