Chuantu's stolen "Fish Goose Collection" went to auction

Sichuan Provincial Library and Guangdong Auction Company successively responded to doubts

Although the Sichuan Library and Guangdong auction companies have publicly responded to the issue of “the stolen documents of the Sichuan Provincial Library being auctioned in Guangzhou”, which has received much public attention, there are still many doubts.

For example, how did this batch of documents—Lin Sijin’s "Fish Goose Collection" appeared at an auction in Shanghai in 2005 after it was stolen in 2004; after being auctioned, it was auctioned again in Guangzhou after 15 years. Has the company and the Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau verified the true source of this batch of documents?

On September 15, a reporter from Beijing Youth Daily brought these questions to the Sichuan Provincial Library, Guangzhou Chongzheng Auction Company, and Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau for verification, but did not receive a positive response.

  Sichuan Provincial Library Statement

The lot is a document stolen from the museum 16 years ago

On September 10, an article on anti-counterfeiting of cultural relics, "The Treasures of the Sichuan Library's Cultural Relics Appeared in Auction Twice, Are They Stolen or Fake" was circulated on the Internet.

The author of the article Jiang Shang said: "On September 13, Guangdong Chongzheng 2020 Spring Auctions will hold a special "Gu Yi Qing Fen" Letters and Ancient Books. Letters from dozens of modern celebrities numbered Lot.731-776 to the Southwestern famous Rulin Sijin. It is the highlight of this auction."

A few hours after the article was sent out, Guangdong Chongzheng Auction Co., Ltd. released the "Lin Sijin-related Lot Withdrawal Statement" on its official Weibo, and withdrew the auction of Lot.731-776, the special catalog number of "Gu Yi Qingfen" .

This withdrawal caused a great sensation on the Internet.

Another party involved, the Sichuan Provincial Library, published on its WeChat account on September 13 that “the collection of cultural relics appeared at an auction house in Guangdong” stating that: Guangdong Chongzheng Auction Co., Ltd. “Southwestern name Rulin Sijin and his After the release of the “Chongzheng 2020 Spring Sale by Friends of Friends” on August 29, the library immediately learned that after comparison, it was highly similar to the stolen documents of the library in 2004. It was immediately reported to the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism on August 30. , Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau, and immediately reported the case, took the initiative to show relevant evidence to the public security organs, and set up a special working group by the Provincial Cultural Heritage Bureau and relevant departments of the Provincial Library to cooperate with the public security organs in handling cases.

The Sichuan Provincial Library also stated that, upon further verification, Guangdong Chongzheng Auction Co., Ltd.'s "Southwestern Rulin Sijin and His Friends Booklet" was a collection of stolen documents related to the theft of the Japanese library library on December 13, 2004. It was reported to the public security agency at that time. Report.

At present, Lin Sijin's related lot has been withdrawn from auction on September 10 and has been temporarily detained by the public security organ. The relevant progress is subject to the result of the case handled by the public security organ.

  Auction company response

The auction of "Fish Goose Collection" is strictly in accordance with the procedures

Regarding the above statement of the Sichuan Provincial Library, Ms. Dai Zhaohui, who is in charge of contacting the news media of Guangdong Chongzheng Auction Co., Ltd., sent a public reply letter to the reporter of Beiqing Daily, saying that after online verification, this batch of lots was once on June 30, 2005. It was sold at an auction held by Shanghai Chongyuan Art Auction Co., Ltd.

"This time, the client who commissioned our company to auction these precious letters of Lin Sijin with multiple bids was obtained from the auction in 2005, and he has kept the lot ever since.

Xu Xiwen, general manager of Guangdong Chongzheng Auction Co., Ltd., introduced in an interview with the media on the 14th that Guangdong Chongzheng Co., Ltd. also conducted an internal review when soliciting this batch of auctions and logged into the "China Stolen (Lost) Cultural Relics Information Publishing Platform" for real-time verification and investigation. Not until Lin Sijin's batch of Tibetan books, that is, it has not been registered.

In addition, this auction was held on September 13, and the "Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics Approval of the "Guangdong Chongzheng 2020 Spring Auction" Cultural Relics" was stamped on August 26, 2020.

"Guangdong Chongzheng's 2020 spring auction will be conducted in strict accordance with the auction procedures," Xu Xiwen told the media.

Xu Xiwen also revealed that on the eve of the preview auction, Guangdong Chongzheng had noticed that there were external voices questioning the source of Lin Sijin's collection of books.

In response to different voices, Guangdong Chongzheng took a responsible attitude and decided after research to immediately withdraw the auction of Lot.731-776, the special catalog number of "Gu Yi Qing Fen".

Therefore, the lot did not appear at the preview site, nor was it auctioned.

  doubt

The cultural relics will be auctioned after years of loss

  Why did Chuantu discover

In response to this response from Guangdong Chongzheng Company, a reporter from the Beiqing Daily logged on to the "China Stolen (Lost) Cultural Relics Information Release Platform" for real-time verification, and indeed did not find the collection of "Fish Goose Collection" by Lin Sijin.

According to public reports, the stolen cultural relics information release platform was only launched on November 16, 2017.

In the past two years of operation, this platform has provided an important basis for my country to combat cultural relics crimes, recover stolen cultural relics and recover cultural relics lost overseas.

So is it because the stolen cultural relics information release platform has only been online in the past two years, and the Sichuan Provincial Library did not repost the stolen cultural relics information more than ten years ago?

Faced with this question from a reporter from Beiqing Daily, a staff member of the Publicity and Education Section of the Sichuan Provincial Library only said on the phone that what they could explain to the outside world had already been mentioned on the official Weibo account of Sichuan Map. In investigating the case, the museum cannot disclose more details.

In the previous explanation, the Sichuan Provincial Library also stated that after the theft of documents in the library in 2004, the library immediately took emergency measures to thoroughly investigate the hidden dangers of the library, install a monitoring system, and increase the security force; The problems were conscientiously rectified, and the protection of the collection of documents was strengthened in terms of management systems, facilities and equipment, and the implementation of responsibilities, and efforts were made to prevent, control and contain various safety incidents.

Since the theft occurred at the end of 2004 and appeared at the auction in Shanghai in 2005, why did the Sichuan Provincial Library not discover it until the documents were auctioned again 15 years later?

The staff member of the Publicity and Education Section of the Sichuan Provincial Library did not directly answer the questions of the reporter from the Beijing Youth Daily.

According to the "Sichuan Daily" report, He Guanglun, director of the Sichuan Provincial Library, said that the library has been closely tracking these cultural relics for so many years.

"In 2005, when this batch of cultural relics was auctioned for the first time, because the Internet was not as developed as it is now, I did not notice the auction information of this batch of collections."

A reporter from Beijing Youth Daily also tried to call the public telephone number of Shanghai Chongyuan Art Auction Co., Ltd. to learn more about the auction situation 15 years ago, but was informed by voice that the phone number was empty.

Today, the only information that can be found on the Internet is that Lin Sijin’s "Fish Goose Collection" was first auctioned at an estimated value of 120,000 to 200,000 yuan, and finally sold at a price of 308,000 yuan.
