  • Despite the health context, the Now festival will take place from October 2 to 11 in Rennes.

  • However, the festival team had to fight to organize this 20th edition.

  • Forty artists will be showing, compared to 80 initially planned.

Organizing a festival is usually never easy.

But with the coronavirus crisis, the mission is a real headache this year.

"We will arrive at the festival completely on our knees", testifies Gaétan Naël.

However, the president of the Electroni (k) association can consider himself happy.

Because its Now festival, which mixes art, music and technology, will take place from October 2 to 11 in Rennes despite the health context.

But the delivery of this edition was painful.

"We wanted to mark the 20th anniversary of the festival and the programming was already well advanced in March," he says.

It was without counting on the Covid-19 crisis which forced the festival team to rethink everything.

“We had to deconstruct everything and imagine lots of scenarios,” underlines Gaétan Naël.

One fifth of the initial programming remains

Of the initially planned programming, there is not much left.

"About a fifth of the program", indicates the president of Electroni (k), admitting to having mounted "five or seven festivals" before arriving at this final version.

In the absence of many foreign artists, it was also necessary to reduce the wing by programming only forty artists, against about 80 initially planned.

Despite all its constraints, the Now team never considered the cancellation.

“From the start, there was a common desire to maintain this edition and to honor this link with the public and the artists,” underlines Gaétan Naël.

It requires taking risks, but it was necessary in order not to sacrifice culture yet ”.

A stroll in the Thabor gardens

From October 2 to 11, exhibitions, concerts and performances await the public in 14 places in the Rennes metropolitan area.

The gauge of indoor shows will still be reduced with every other seat in some places.

The festival team was also forced to change its formats, in particular by imagining a stroll in the Thabor gardens.
