Rapper Josep Miquel Arenas Beltrán, known under the artist name Valtònyc, was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison in Spain for parts of his lyrics, but fled to Belgium in 2018.

On Tuesday, a Belgian court postponed the decision on whether the rapper should be extradited to his home country or not.

The reason is that they are waiting for an answer from the Constitutional Court on Belgian majestic laws from the 19th century.

The Majesty's Laws state that insults against the king are a crime and now the court wants to know if they are contrary to freedom of expression, according to the rapper's lawyer Simon Bekaert.

"A spoiler"

- What I said is not a lie, they have convicted me of a "spoiler", because I said that (the Spanish royal family) Borbón are thieves and mafiosos - as they have now turned out to be, the rapper tells El País.

Spanish ex-king Juan Carlos de Borbón recently fled Spain himself after allegations of bribery and money laundering.

Valtònyc was convicted of glorifying terrorism (linked to the now defunct terrorist group ETA) through his lyrics and of insulting the royal family - which is illegal in Spain.

A dozen rappers have been convicted in Spain in recent years for similar crimes.

The court in Belgium is expected to rule in early December.
