Last week came the news that the Oscars are introducing demands for diversity, after the hashtag OscarsSoWhite and years of criticism of lack of representation.

The requirements will come into force in 2024. It is about representation among actors but also the staff behind the camera.

Now the Swedish Guldbagge Gala can follow in the category of Swedish film, says Anna Serner, CEO of the Swedish Film Institute.

- I think it will be a bit of a North Korean way of looking at culture: There are demands from above that must be met, says director Ali Abbasi who, among other things, made the film Border.

"Must create change"

But Anna Serner believes that there is no reason to worry.

- The rules of the Oscars are designed so that all films that have won the category in the last 15 years have passed.

It is not the case that the rules change the world, she says.

But more industry representatives are critical.

- If you open the door to give all kinds of cues for reward or to even distribute support, you must remember that film support in Sweden is a politically controlled activity.

Then you have to be very, very careful, says Eva Hamilton, chairman of the Film and TV producers.
