The International Contemporary Art Fair (Fiac), the main annual meeting of the art world in Paris, announced on Monday the cancellation of its 2020 edition, initially scheduled for October 22 to 25 in Paris, due to the epidemic of Covid-19.

“It is with great disappointment that Fiac is forced to cancel its 2020 edition, scheduled for the Grand Palais,” said Fiac in a press release, specifying that the next edition will take place from October 21 to 24, 2021.

The cancellation concerns all the events expected within the framework of this fair, at the Grand Palais but also in its sites Outside the walls (the Petit Palais, the Tuileries Garden, the Eugène-Delacroix National Museum, the Place Vendôme and the Place de La Concorde, in Paris), she adds.

Fiac "has undertaken to reimburse exhibitors 100% of the sums already paid".

The 47th edition, in October 2021, will take place at the Grand Palais Ephémère, on the Champ-de-Mars, due to the renovation of the Grand Palais.

Nearly 75,000 admissions in five days

La Fiac brought together 199 galleries from 28 countries in 2019, achieving nearly 75,000 admissions in five days.

Among the regions most represented by gallerists, galleries and collectors are Europe, North America and East Asia.

The Fiac is the third contemporary art fair after Art Basel, in Basel (Switzerland), and the Frieze in London.

Art Basel (which usually takes place in June) has been canceled this year, along with Frieze London and Frieze Masters (October).

Art Paris, another contemporary art fair, initially planned for the spring, had maintained its annual meeting, moved to the beginning of September, thus becoming the first meeting of the art market to be held in Europe for six months.
