Video ... a pure diamond weighing 102 carats is for sale at a fabulous price

One of the world's rarest diamonds, the size of an egg, will go up for sale at auction next month and is expected to sell for between $ 12 million and $ 30 million.

Sotheby's said on Thursday that the 102.39-carat, flawless white diamond is the second-largest oval diamond of its kind to be auctioned.

The largest, which weighed 118.28 carats, achieved a record price of $ 30.8 million when it was sold in 2013.

Only seven diamonds weighing more than 100 carats of this ultra-fine quality were sold at previous auctions.

"More and more people have realized that something billions of years old and the size of a small piece of candy can be as valuable as a Rembrandt self-portrait or a Basquiat artwork," said Gary Schuller, head of Sotheby's jewelry division.

The diamond will be sold at an auction in Hong Kong on October 5th.
