  • Between mockery and disbelief, the prevention instructions against Covid-19 posted in a parking lot arouse strong reactions.

  • These recommend motorists to keep a distance of one car between each vehicle.

  • This measure is in effect in a Quebec ski resort, but it actually aims to prevent visitors from being too close when getting ready in front of their automobile.

“We have now reached automotive distancing.

Tell me I'm dreaming!

"," Certainly nominated for the silliest poster of 2020 "," Welcome to… absurdity !!!

»… On social networks, a poster photographed in a parking lot arouses many mocking or incredulous comments.

It must be said that this "mandatory preventive measure to be observed" against the coronavirus is surprisingly since it asks motorists who come to park their cars there to "keep a distance of one car between each vehicle".

And if some people wonder about the veracity of this instruction, which they take for a bad joke, the photo is authentic: it was taken in the Quebec ski resort of Mont Sainte-Anne (whose name is well visible on the poster).

But contrary to what one might think at first glance, this measure is not absurd since it aims to maintain a distance between passing motorists - and not strictly speaking between vehicles.

FAKE OFF

“This display has been installed in our parking lot since the beginning of the summer, confirms the ski resort at

20 Minutes.

The entire province of Quebec has been in total containment for several weeks.

When deconfinement was authorized by government authorities, several rules were put in place to promote social distancing between individuals.

During the summer months, Mont-Sainte-Anne is a recognized mountain biking center where we welcome thousands of people every week ”.

“People come with their families, get ready for their cars, make adjustments to their bikes and end their day cleaning their equipment.

This “car distancing” measure was simply to facilitate real physical distancing and thus prevent several dozen people from ending up in the same square meters, ”she continues.

Before concluding: “[This instruction] was also intended to take into consideration people who are less comfortable with physical connections in the context of a pandemic and to respect them.

"

Some motorists, on the other hand, have practiced of their own free will a real “automobile distancing”: at the end of May, a Belgian motorist stood out on Flemish roads for his personalized number plate in the name of “Covid-19”, which aimed to encourage other cars to stay at least 1.5 meters away.
