One more time.
Conor McGregor, the Irish star of MMA, mixed martial arts, was taken into custody in Corsica, suspected of attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition, we learned this Saturday from the Bastia prosecutor's office .
“Following a complaint filed on September 10 denouncing facts likely to be qualified as attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition, Mr. Conor Anthony Mac Gregor was the subject of a hearing by the services of the gendarmerie, under police custody, ”writes the prosecution in a statement sent to AFP.
No other details were given on the charges against him.
Controversial fight
Figurehead of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, MMA's main fight organizer Conor McGregor, 32, is one of the most popular and highest paid fighters in the history of the sport which combines multiple martial arts and allows kicks, punches, knees and elbows, as well as ground strikes, chokes and keys inside a closed enclosure, the octagon.
McGregor held the UFC featherweight title from 2015 to 2016 and lightweight from 2016 to 2018. But it was while participating in a controversial boxing fight against American legend Floyd Mayweather, in August 2017 in Las Vegas, that he rose to worldwide notoriety and wealth despite his defeat.
In June 2020, he announced his retirement for the third time, having twice returned to the octagons.
