  • The situation is becoming "very worrying", underlines the ARS of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the region is now the second most affected in France by the virus.

  • The number of hospitalizations fell from 85 at the end of August to 147 on September 7.

  • After the Gironde, the Pyrénées-Atlantiques should turn into the category of red departments.

The situation is becoming "very worrying", underlines the ARS of Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

If the active circulation of the virus on the territory, did not translate, or little, into an increase in hospitalizations, the latest figures from the health authorities communicated this Friday are edifying.

The number of hospitalizations for Covid-19 in New Aquitaine rose from 85 on August 31 (including 13 in intensive care), to 147 on September 8 (including 33 in intensive care).

"This trend particularly impacts the Bordeaux University Hospital (68 hospitalizations on September 9, including 21 in intensive care), but potentially will concern other health establishments in the region if the epidemic continues to spread at this high rate", warns again the ARS.

The department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques could turn red

For the past month, the positivity rate has fallen from 1.6% on weekdays to 5.2% to date in New Aquitaine.

Thus, the number of cases has strongly increased and this is not only linked to an increase in the number of screenings carried out: "the positivity rate is an excellent surveillance indicator to judge the real circulation of the virus".

If this varies from 1.8% in Creuse to 8.3% in Gironde, they are all increasing in all departments, especially for the departments of Vienne (4.5%), Landes (3.5 %) and Dordogne (2.5%).

Due to the unfavorable evolution of several monitoring indicators, the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department will be declared in high vulnerability

,

like the Gironde.

The decision to move to an “active traffic zone” (ZCA) more commonly known as “red zone” could be taken this Friday.

The incidence rate in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques has crossed the bar of 50 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants over 7 days (51.1 to 9 September).
