The coronavirus will soon be recognized as an occupational disease, and will give the right to compensation in the event of sequelae or death.

The measure, announced last spring by the government, will only concern serious cases.

The measure was announced last spring by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran.

The coronavirus will soon be recognized as an occupational disease and will give the right, as such, to annuity or capital compensation in the event of sequelae or death.

The decree, whose publication is imminent, will only take into account serious forms, that is to say when the patient's state of health has required oxygen therapy.

For caregivers, automatic recognition in severe cases

Recognition of the coronavirus as an occupational disease is split into two regimes.

First, that of caregivers, and more broadly all the staff mobilized in hospitals, nursing homes and in home help structures.

For them, the condition is simple: if they have developed Covid-19 in a severe form, recognition as an occupational disease will be automatic.

Another plan will be put in place for all other employees, such as those in mass distribution and road transport, who continued to work during confinement and who contracted the disease on this occasion.

A case-by-case assessment for other employees

For these employees, recognition will go through an individual assessment led by a committee made up of two doctors.

It will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, since the risk of contracting the Covid in the workplace is less obvious than for healthcare staff.

Here too, the disease will have to take a severe form.

The National Health Insurance Fund opened a platform dedicated to filing claims several weeks ago, and several thousand have already arrived.
