Eight years after leaving Wangmo, Liu Xiuxiang returned to his hometown with his mother. He once tried his best to guard his dreams and became the "dream watcher" of others.

Liu Xiuxiang said that the biggest problem for students now is confusion, and they don't understand why they want to study.

Through his own experience, he wants to tell those children who are at a loss: life must have a dream.

"If I had no dreams, I might have given up long ago."

On the afternoon of September 7, Lu Bangyan, a 2020 graduate of Wangmo County Senior Experimental Middle School, returned to her alma mater accompanied by her father. She held the university admission notice just received the day before.

The purpose of Lu Bangyan and his father's trip was to find Liu Xiuxiang to help her match up with funding.

In front of a teaching building, Lu Bangyan and his father met Liu Xiuxiang. Liu Xiuxiang received the admission letter from her. While looking through it, he learned about her family situation and difficulties, and told her studio staff Wang Daifen to register Lu Bangyan. Information to facilitate subsequent docking.

"Thousands of miles back to university"

Liu Xiuxiang is the vice-principal of Wangmo County Senior Experimental Middle School in Guizhou Province, but he is more well-known as the protagonist of "Going to University a Thousand Miles Back" 12 years ago.

In March 1986, Liu Xiuxiang was born in Nonglin Village, Wangmo County. When he was a child, his father died of illness and his mother suffered from mental illness due to excessive sadness. His happy and carefree childhood came to an abrupt end.

In the third grade of elementary school, when his elder brothers and sisters went out to earn a living, his mother became more ill, and the burden of family life was all weighed on Liu Xiuxiang's immature shoulders.

Liu Xiuxiang took the name himself. "I am from the'Xiu' generation. I hope my mother and I can be safe, so I named myself'Xiuxiang'."

Young and small, unable to grow land, Liu Xiuxiang sublet his own land to others at a rent of 500 jin of rice per year. Together with the relief food distributed in the village, he and his mother's food rations are guaranteed.

In 1995, Liu Xiuxiang walked into the school. He was still young and determined that only reading can change his destiny.

This belief has always supported him. In the 2001 primary school graduation exam, Liu Xiuxiang ranked third in the county. However, due to economic reasons, he failed to attend the best middle school in Wangmo County at that time. Instead, he enrolled in a private school in the county for free. , And take the mother.

When he first arrived in the county seat, he had no money to rent a house. He used straw to build a shed on the hillside next to the school. He dug a hole in the open space in front of the house and set up a wok, which was the kitchen.

After three years of junior high school, Liu Xiuxiang went to pick up waste after school, and did odd jobs on weekends, so that he could earn more than 20 yuan a week, barely supporting the life of the mother and son.

After graduating from junior high school, Liu Xiuxiang was admitted to the No. 1 Middle School in Anlong County. He took his mother to leave Wangmo and continue his education.

Although he claimed to be "Xiaoqiang who can't be beaten to death", he still felt fear and fear for the first time. "Everything is unfamiliar, no one he knows, and he is not familiar with the environment."

When he first arrived in Anlong, Liu Xiuxiang had only more than 600 yuan. It was earned by him and his fellow villagers who went to repair the hydropower station in Zunyi, but this was not enough for him to rent a house to live in.

In desperation, he rented an idle pigsty from a farmer’s house for 200 yuan a year.

The pigsty was transparent on all sides, and he found a woven bag to cover it-it was home.

Just like when he was in junior high school, Liu Xiuxiang is still studying hard while using his spare time to make money to make ends meet. He is tired and longing for it.

But fate again "tricked" him. A week before the college entrance examination, Liu Xiuxiang fell ill and eventually fell out of the rankings by 6 points.

The failure of the college entrance examination made Liu Xiuxiang desperate, and even thought of committing suicide.

However, looking at a sentence in the previous diary book gave him another hope: "When you complain about no shoes, look back and find that someone else has no feet."

"Compared with those orphans, I at least still have a mother. As long as she is there, I will have a home." Liu Xiuxiang said. He felt very happy to call "Mom" after returning home.

He decided to fight for the college entrance examination again and persuaded the principal of a private school to accept him for re-entry.

In 2008, Liu Xiuxiang was admitted to Linyi University (formerly Linyi Normal University). After receiving the notice, he cried with his mother in his arms.

In September of that year, he took his mother to study in Shandong again.

"People should not make others feel pitiful when they are alive"

In 2008, after Liu Xiuxiang's story was reported by the media, all kinds of help followed.

Linyi University provided temporary accommodation for him and his mother, and arranged work-study positions for him.

After enrolling, many enthusiastic people and companies have expressed their willingness to help, but he refused.

Liu Xiuxiang said that he was afraid that others would offer help because of pity for him. "I think people should not make others feel pitiful, but make people feel amiable and respectable."

Although he refused to help others, Liu Xiuxiang actively helped others.

During college, he went out to work part-time in his spare time, and sent part of his income back to Guizhou to support the three younger siblings he knew when he was picking up waste in junior high school.

"I send each of them 300 yuan for living expenses every month." Liu Xiuxiang said, the two younger siblings were admitted to college and now have good jobs.

In 2012, Liu Xiuxiang is about to graduate from university. Initially, he did not plan to return to Guizhou to work, but planned to find a good job in other provinces, and then send his salary back to help those in his hometown who need help like he used to be.

Liu Xiuxiang received olive branches from many companies, but a phone call from his hometown made him change his mind.

The call was made by a younger sister she met when she was picking up waste in junior high school. She told Liu Xiuxiang that she did not want to study and was about to get married.

The call was short, but it changed Liu Xiuxiang's mind.

Liu Xiuxiang said that after hearing his sister's decision, he was shocked and sad, and felt that he had to go back.

In this way, eight years after leaving Wangmo, Liu Xiuxiang took his mother back to his hometown and became a history teacher at Dayi Middle School. He was soon transferred to Wangmo County Minority Middle School to teach.

In August 2018, Wangmo County Senior Experimental Middle School was established and he was appointed as the vice principal.

Liu Xiuxiang, who had tried his best to guard his dreams, became the "dream-keeper" of others.

Liu Xiuxiang said that the biggest problem for students now is confusion, and they don't understand why they want to study.

Through his own experience, he wants to tell those children who are at a loss: life must have a dream.

"If I had no dreams, I might have given up long ago."

To this end, in addition to regular teaching and administrative affairs, Liu Xiuxiang will also be invited to give lectures in various places.

At present, he has given more than 1,000 speeches and has traveled all over Guizhou cities (prefectures). In August this year, he was invited to Ningbo, Zhejiang.

In recent years, Liu Xiuxiang has been awarded honorary titles such as "China's Good Teacher", "China May Fourth Youth Medal", and "Most Beautiful Teacher". He also had the opportunity to develop on a better platform, but he declined.

"One side of the water and soil supports the other. It might be better for me to go out, but I prefer to stay here."

  "He is like sunshine"

On the afternoon of September 8th, through Liu Xiuxiang's matchmaking, an entrepreneur from Yuyao City, Zhejiang Province formed a helping hand with Lu Bangyan.

"The funding amount is about 6,000 yuan per year. After the funder has reviewed Lu Bangyan's information, the time for the payment will be determined." said Wang Daifen, a staff member of Liu Xiuxiang's studio.

Lu Bangyan's parents are employees of the student canteen of Wangmo County Senior Experimental Middle School, and their income is tight, while her brother is in the second year of senior high school in Wangmo County Minority Middle School. The annual tuition of 27,500 yuan for the two sisters and brothers has become the biggest problem for her family.

After experiencing hardships, Liu Xiuxiang understands the preciousness of opportunities. He told himself that he should work hard to relieve the worries of poor students from studying.

In Liu Xiuxiang's view, only by resolving the worries of the future can we truly control dropouts and guarantee school.

Since joining the company, Liu Xiuxiang has visited the students’ homes every holiday and traveled to 15 towns and villages in Wangmo County. He broke 8 motorcycles alone and brought nearly 50 students back to campus from the construction sites and workshops.

In the summer of 2019, Wang Mei, who was studying in Wangmo County No. 3 Middle School, was soon asked by her mother to not be allowed to take the high school entrance examination. After graduation, she went out to work to earn money.

Wang Mei, who was eager to study, quickly took the high school entrance examination secretly and was successfully admitted to Wangmo County Senior Experimental Middle School, but was eventually forced to drop out.

After learning the news, Liu Xiuxiang took Wang Meikuai's junior high school teacher and the cadre of the town to do his mother's ideological work together. After many attempts, he finally convinced the other party.

Later, he met with caring people to support Wang Meikuai, with an amount of 7,000 yuan per year until graduation.

Wang Mei was soon able to return to school.

"Ms. Liu is like sunshine. Every time I can't stick to it, thinking of his past experience, I feel that the difficulties I have encountered are nothing." Ms Wang said quickly that reading can change a lot, and she hopes to change herself in the future And the status quo of the family, to help more people like yourself.

Also "pulled" back to campus by Liu Xiuxiang, it is hoped that Liao Duan, a sophomore at Moxian High Experimental Middle School, wrote that due to the heavy financial burden at home, she was forced to give up her studies and go out to work.

After learning that Liao Duan wrote about dropping out of school, Liu Xiuxiang insisted on communicating with Liao Duan's mother, explaining to her the country's assistance policy, and actively providing support for Liao Duan's writing.

Through the joint efforts of Liu Xiuxiang, the school and the caring people in society, Liao Duanshu finally returned to school after leaving for nearly two years.

"At that time, I would communicate with Teacher Liu whenever I was free, and I wanted to go back to school. Without education, I can only do hard work. Only by studying hard and entering university can I change my destiny." Liao Duan recalled the days of working. Write tears.

"From 2012 to now, more than 1,900 students have been funded or matched by Mr. Liu himself." Wang Daifen said that as of September 10, Liu Xiuxiang had matched funds for 101 students who were admitted to the university this year. A total of 298,400 yuan.

"I am very glad that I have not become a burden to society, and I have the opportunity to realize my value." Liu Xiuxiang said.
