Will the game "Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions" make you not a good footballer but a satisfied fan?

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment

  • Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions

is available on PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch since August 27

  • The game uses graphics from the cult cartoon of the 1980s and its 2018 remake

  • The player can have fun facing his friends with hellish catapules and acrobatic flips, but also relive the adventures of Olivier Atton and invent his own

Yes, the author of his lines signed up for the local football club after seeing the

Olive & Tom

cartoon

in the Club Dorothée, and yes, he was trying to cut the net at every practice.

In vain.

This is what was beautiful with the japanime of the 1980s and 1990s, and with the famous

nekketsu

of shônen works.

How many

Dragon Ball

fans

have tried Goku's “Kamé Hamé Ha” in their teenage bedroom?

And how many have succeeded?

Your legend starts now.

The answer was found on consoles, with yesterday the

 Super Butoden series

and today the slap in

Dragon Ball FighterZ

.

But the others, the

Knights of the Zodiac

and

Olive & Tom

fans,

have never been able to reach the 7th sense or perform an acrobatic return.

Lack of good video games.

For the first, you have to go to the side of the

free and French

fangame

Saint Seiya Ultimate Cosmo

, but for the second, the new

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions

, available on PS4, PC and Switch, promises to rediscover the sensations of the era: the 18km long terrain, crazy dribbling, and shooting like special shots.

Simple, fun… and repetitive?

Like

Dragon Ball FighterZ

, the game

Captain Tusbasa

enjoys the nearly 40 years (!) That separate it from the anime and the technological and graphic leap of video games.

The player can thus have the impression of "playing" the cartoon of his childhood.

Or rather to its recent remake of 2018, which uses the original title and names.

It is not as obvious as

Dragon Ball FighterZ

, by its classic nature of a football game, but the passage from

in-game

to short cutscenes which highlight an action, a shot, is fluid, dynamic… Here we are , we believe in.

Then we understood.

What fun for the moment!

Arcade-oriented, obviously,

Rise of New Champions

offers direct handling, simple gameplay, even nagging, fast and fun matches, but also repetitive.

Even to several.

After having seen and re-examined the shooting of the Tiger of Mark Landers (here Kojiro Hyuga) or the infernal catapult of the Derrick brothers (here Tachibana), the player can get bored.

And the game doesn't have the depth of a

FIFA

or a

PES

, with a few additional annoyances like auto player switching, some camera angles, and sometimes an imbalance of power.

A soccer game or a fan game?

But

Captain Tsubasa

is less of a soccer game than a fan game, with two story modes.

The first, "Episode: Tsubasa", invites you to relive the tournament of colleagues and therefore a bit of the animated series, like Dragon Ball: Kakarot.

But it's only a long tutorial for "Episode: New Hero", where the player literally enters the field via the creation of an avatar.

A childhood dream come true?

It's better than being on the sidelines at every ASC Belloy Saint Martin game.

From this point of view, the game offers real room for improvement, in terms of abilities, skills and even friendships.

The nostalgia effect seems to have worked, and marked, since the game has climbed straight into the top 5 sales.
