Warner Bros.

published the first trailer for Denis Villeneuve's fantasy drama Dune, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by American writer Frank Herbert.

The main role in the film is played by Timothy Chalamet.

Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Zendea, Stellan Skarsgard, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling and other actors are also involved in the film.

The events of the picture unfold in the distant future.

People live on different planets owned by powerful families.

On the planet Arrakis, melange is mined in the desert - a unique substance necessary for space travel.

Possession of it guarantees the owner unlimited power.

Arrakis is taken over by the Atreides family.

However, the past owners - the Harkonnens - are unwilling to give up the benefits of melange and are crushing House Atreides.

The main character, a young aristocrat Paul Atreides (Shalam), will have to go to the desert, join the local Fremen tribe and with their help confront the Harkonnens and regain the planet.

The Dune trailer shows Paul's meeting with his future wife Chani (Zenday), as well as the hero's preparation for battle and the intergalactic battle itself.

The video also includes footage from Gaia-Elena Moiyam (Rampling) testing Paul with a painful cube.

Also in the video presented, you can see distant planets, endless deserts and huge sand worms living in them, on the images of which the director worked for a whole year.

Filming took place on location in Hungary and Jordan.

The premiere of Dune in Russia is scheduled for December 17, 2020.

Earlier it became known about the intention of Denis Villeneuve to shoot at least two films based on the novel by Frank Herbert.

These plans are explained by the fact that "Dune" is a voluminous work that raises a number of political, religious and social issues that are difficult to cover in one full-length project.

The director, who has released such films as Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival, noted that Dune is his most difficult work.

Other film adaptations of "Dune"

Denis Villeneuve is not the first director to take on the adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel.

In the 1970s, the Chilean director Alejandro Jodorovski, known for the films "The Mole", "Holy Blood" and "Sacred Mountain", turned his attention to the work.

It was supposed to be played by Orson Welles and Salvador Dali, and the music by Pink Floyd.

Jodorowski planned to significantly change the plot and add his own vision of the story, taking the novel as a basis.

The film, however, was never shot due to lack of funding - the director's ideas turned out to be too ambitious.

Frank Herbert suggested that Jodorowski was not going to shoot anything: according to him, the director's script was designed for a 12-hour film.

The second attempt to film "Dune" was crowned with success: in 1984, the film of the same name by David Lynch with Kyle McLachlan and Jurgen Prokhnov was released.

The original plot underwent significant changes again: some characters disappeared from Herbert's story.

The fantasy world shown on the screen was also different from the one presented in the book.

The film performed poorly at the box office, grossing only $ 31 million on a budget of $ 40 million, and received mostly negative reviews from critics.

Many noted that the authors of the tape failed to reveal the plot, and the narrative turned out to be too confusing.

In 2000, a three-part adaptation of Dune, directed by John Harrison, appeared.

The series was brought as close as possible to the book.

The project received good reviews from critics, and the creators of the tape were awarded two Emmy awards - for special effects and camera work (Vittorio Storaro).

Three years later, the sequel to the film, Children of Dune, was released.
