In the new TER production operational center, in Matabiau station.

H. Menal - 20 Minutes

  • In Matabiau, a new operational center supervises the circulation of all TER trains.

  • In front of their screens, 35 agents take care of regional trains non-stop.

  • But also, and this is new, to inform the 60,000 daily travelers as closely as possible.

If you traveled this summer on a TER from Occitanie and had the bad luck to experience an incident, perhaps you have been able to be informed of the exact nature of the problem.

In a voice that was neither that of your controller nor that of the driver.

It came straight from an ultramodern room, located in a corner of the Matabiau station.

This is the new TER production operational center (COP).

"The 35 agents are responsible for the supervision, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, of the TERs throughout Western Occitanie", explains Frank Lacroix, TER general manager, ie 540 trains and 60,000 daily passengers.

We are far from the lights which light up as the trains advance.

On a giant screen, they are geolocated in real time and indicated in red if they are late.

The screens are curved and, above all, everything is integrated.

In the same room work the specialists who, with experience helping, manage to predict the probable duration of delays, the team ready to take charge of travelers in galley or the agent in charge of announcements at the station, and now in oars.

Professional scapegoat

In the last row, discreet in his bubble, there is Jules, the TER community manager, in other words the service scapegoat.

He is the one who answers your questions on Twitter.

"When there is an incident, I try not to disturb, I just listen to the information", explains the one who is "naturally positive" and knows how to spot professional complainers on the social network to better ignore them .

With this "technological showcase", operational since July, SNCF wants to gain "in agility and responsiveness".

“We have already seen the benefit of the COP this summer.

It allows us in particular to gain serenity in degraded situations ", underlines Philippe Bru, the regional director of SNCF, who notices that since the start of the school year," the regularity of the TER is 93.9% against 92% in 2019 ".

Obviously, the COP does not prevent breakdowns or delays, but it alleviates them.

In a region of Occitania where the train is on the rise.

TER ridership increased by 10% this summer, while that of other French trains fell by more than 20%.
