Hypochondria is excessive anxiety about one's health.

The slightest symptom, seemingly benign (cough, headache, itching…) can be according to a person the hypochondriac heralding a serious illness.

If the health problems are imaginary, the anguish they arouse is very real.

The fear of the disease itself can generate certain physical reactions.
