NEW CHINA / SIPA

  • Wearing a mask will remain compulsory in Strasbourg.

The prefect announced it on Monday, she will write exactly the same decree as on August 28.

The latter had been attacked before the administrative court, before the Council of State made a decision on Sunday evening.

  • “We rigorously applied the decision of the Council of State,” explained Josiane Chevalier when justifying the measure chosen for Strasbourg.

  • In Bischheim and Schiltigheim, wearing a mask will also be compulsory all the time and everywhere, except in parks and gardens.

In the ten other largest towns in the department, only specific places are concerned.

Strasbourg, Strasbourg, put on your masks!

The day after the decision of the Council of State which followed an intense legal battle, the prefect of Bas-Rhin announced on Monday that she was going to renew the same decree as on August 28.

Clearly, wearing a mask will remain compulsory at all times throughout the Alsatian capital.

It will also be in Schiltigheim and Bischheim, except in parks and gardens, but no longer in the ten other largest towns in the department.

In these, the wearing of the mask will be obligatory only in certain places where groupings are possible: nurseries, schools, colleges, high schools, places of worship, theaters, gymnasiums, playgrounds etc.

"Madam Mayor knows it"

"We rigorously applied the decision of the Council of State", justified Josiane Chevalier when discussing the measure chosen for Strasbourg.

Which goes against the call made earlier by the new mayor Jeanne Barseghian.

She wanted the mask not to be compulsory in “parks, gardens and urban green spaces.

"

Response from the prefect?

“I spoke with the mayor.

We have been talking with her since the beginning of August and I would have liked to impose the wearing of the mask earlier.

My answer [to his request] is negative and the Mayor knows it.

"

No early closing for bars

This new decree will be in effect until September 30, when "a reassessment of the situation" will be carried out by the Prefecture.

At present, the Bas-Rhin has been classified as an “active traffic zone” for Covid-19.

In the department, the incidence rate exceeds the alert threshold set at 50 by the health authorities.

In Strasbourg, it is even worse since more than 60 people out of 100,000 tested positive for Covid-19 last week.

Could the situation push the prefect to force bars and restaurants to draw back the curtain earlier, as in Marseille?

“If I don't see excess in these places, I have no reason to force them to close earlier.

I have no difficulty with them ”, clarified Josiane Chevalier.

Its new decree should be published on Tuesday.
