She added: “I do not present in my works a history, nor do I deal with historical figures in them. My heroes are people of pure imagination, but the time of the novel in which the events take place is historical, as it is related to periods that witnessed qualitative shifts in the history of the region, as an attempt to form a historical awareness of the reader, so as not to A disconnect occurs between us and our history and our geography. It is important that there is an active communication between the past and the present, and we should not cancel the past in order to live the present.

Bassiouni called for linking the Arabic language at the present time with a force that contributes to encouraging new generations to adhere to it, such as imposing it as a language that deals with government agencies or requiring mastery of it on everyone who joins work, criticizing the pride of some Arab youth for not mastering their mother tongue.

She added: “We have to teach our children the history and the history of colonialism so that they understand the attempts that have been made to obliterate the language, because obliterating the language facilitates the obliteration of identity, so that the colonial powers worked to strip the Arabic language of its value, and link mastery of foreign languages with advancement and distinguished social status.
