A week after the start of the school year, 28 establishments as well as 262 classes are closed in France due to cases of Covid-19, Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer said on BFMTV on Monday.

That is six more establishments than at the end of last week and more than double the number of classes.

"This is the kind of thing that we expected", "it is the essential corollary of the prudence that we have", commented the Minister, adding that the figure would "probably be higher in the next few days".

Soon a “special Covid” sick child device

Asked how many students were missing in this new school year, he felt that it was "too early to give a figure".

“The first feedback we have is that the vast majority of students have returned,” he said.

Jean-Michel Blanquer was a guest of BFMTV alongside Elisabeth Borne.

The two ministers assured that a “special Covid” sick child device would be unveiled for parents who must keep their child who can no longer be in school.

"The priority is that parents can continue to work," recalls Elisabeth Borne, the Minister of Labor.

If that is not possible, we finalize a device, whether it be daily allowances or partial activity that we are in the process of arbitrating.
