From our correspondent in Egypt,

Frédéric Nkeuna

With the approach of the centenary anniversary of the Egyptian Football Federation (EFA), the standards committee wanted to set up a museum at the entrance to the headquarters for its visitors.

And to showcase the rich history of Egyptian football, what better way than to showcase the African cups of the cations won?

It was still necessary to be able to get hold of these trophies.

This is the gruesome story that Egyptian star presenter Ahmed Shobeir told this September 4, 2020 in his sports program “Malaab On time”, on the local channel On Sport.

The members of the standards committee “

asked,

'

Guys, where is the 2010 trophy?

' We said 'over

there, over there, etc ...

' Until someone told them that this trophy can be found with former captain Ahmed Hassan.

They then asked Ahmed Hassan, who replied with a laugh

: "

I have something to do with this story ?!

" Finally, by dint of searching in vain, they realized that this trophy of the CAN 2010 is not found.

A trophy that Egypt had to preciously keep and which is now impossible to find

!

Ah, I swear to you, this is no joke

!

 "

A false controversy

?

In 2013, the Egyptian Football Federation was ransacked, torched and looted.

At the time, these acts of vandalism were attributed to Ultras groups.

After seeing the damage, EFA Executive Director Tharwat Sweilem announced that a large part of the trophies had been stolen without specifying whether it concerned that of the 2010 African Cup of Nations, even if it was was very likely.

For the Egyptian journalist Amr Fahmy, this controversy is in any case unnecessary.

Why are we talking about it now

?

It may be a strategy to deceive public opinion and hide more serious things.

In the immediate future, we should expect that each will blame the other.

Obviously, the Federation's standardization committee has nothing to do with all of this.

This is how it is, here in Egypt.

This is the reason why I am very surprised to see that this story that took place seven years ago is brought back to the fore today.

 "

The standardization committee has announced that it has already opened an investigation.
