China News Service, Nanchang, September 4 (Li Yunhan) Two days after Zhang Yuhuan submitted his application for national compensation, the Jiangxi Provincial Higher People's Court (hereinafter referred to as "Jiangxi Higher Court") decided on the 4th to accept Zhang Yuhuan's application for national compensation.

  On October 24, 1993, two boys from a village in Fenghuang Township, Jinxian County, Jiangxi Province disappeared.

The next day, the bodies of the two boys were found in a reservoir near the village.

After investigation, the police transferred Zhang Yuhuan as the suspect to the procuratorial organ for review and prosecution.

  On November 28, 2001, Jiangxi High Court sentenced Zhang Yuhuan to death for intentional homicide, suspended for two years, and deprived of political rights for life.

After the judgment became legally effective, Zhang Yuhuan submitted a criminal complaint to the Jiangxi Higher Court on August 22, 2017.

On July 9, 2020, the Jiangxi Higher People's Court held a public hearing on the case.

  On August 4, 2020, the Jiangxi Higher People's Court issued a public sentence on the retrial of the original trial defendant Zhang Yuhuan's intentional homicide, revoked the original trial judgment and declared Zhang Yuhuan not guilty.

  29 days after his acquittal, Zhang Yuhuan submitted an application for state compensation totaling more than 22.34 million yuan (RMB, the same below) to the Jiangxi Higher Court.

The compensation application mainly includes compensation for infringement of personal freedom, compensation for infringement of the right to health and follow-up treatment fees, compensation for mental damages, compensation for redress expenses, public apology, etc.

  The Jiangxi Higher People’s Court held that “Zhang Yuhuan applied for state compensation to the Jiangxi Higher People’s Court on September 2, 2020 on the grounds that he was not guilty in the retrial. The prescribed conditions for filing the case will be accepted on September 4th.” (End)
