Fortunately, the outage did not last.

A power cut plunged into darkness about 270,000 homes Thursday evening in four departments, half of which in Haute-Vienne, said Réseau de Transport d'Electricité (RTE).

The cut took place at 9:26 p.m., and at midnight, "all homes were re-supplied," RTE said overnight, apologizing for "the inconvenience caused".

The cut affected 163,000 households in Haute-Vienne, particularly in Limoges, 53,000 in Creuse, 54,000 in Indre and 2,400 in Corrèze.

RTE referred to "an incident in the Eguzon substation", in the south of the Indre.

In a tweet, the mayor of Châteauroux Gil Avérous explained that the problem was due to a "faulty high voltage line".
