Seismic diagnosis mistake at viaduct of JR Sanyo Shinkansen 69 pillar reinforcement to September 3 18:39

JR West made a mistake in the seismic diagnosis of the Sanyo Shinkansen viaduct, and it was found that a total of 69 pillars in Hiroshima prefecture were left unreinforced.

JR West will finish the reinforcement work by the end of the next fiscal year.

According to JR West, the earthquake-proof diagnosis was incorrect for Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, and 69 Sanyo Shinkansen viaducts in Fukuoka.

JR West carried out a seismic diagnosis on all pillars of viaducts on the Shinkansen in the wake of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake 25 years ago, and prioritized approximately 32,500 reinforcement works that could be severely damaged by the shaking of the earthquake. It was announced that it was completed by 2012.

However, when JR West re-examined this time due to a seismic diagnosis error found on the viaduct of the Shinkansen of JR East in January, a similar error was found in the seismic diagnosis, and originally, reinforcement work should be given priority. It was found that there were 69 pillars left.

Although it has not been damaged by the earthquake, JR West is planning to complete the reinforcement work by the end of the next fiscal year.

JR West said, "We deeply apologize for any inconvenience and concern. We will implement seismic reinforcement immediately."
