Director Nathan Grossman began following activist Greta Thunberg in the first days of her famous school strike in April 2019.

Then, of course, no one knew that she would soon be the leader of a worldwide climate movement.

And Greta was not an obvious protagonist.

- No, I absolutely did not think we would sit here with a big movie and premiere in Venice.

We wanted to do a series with several young activists, it felt more like a small-scale project.

Started as a short film

When did you decide to make the film?

- Greta got noticed pretty quickly so I continued to follow her.

As she traveled around Europe and got bigger, we felt that the film would be longer than the 15 minutes that a short film should be.

So then we just drove on.

"More intimate"

Nathan Grossman follows Greta Thunberg closely, and he hopes that the film will give a deeper understanding of who she is.

- Yes I hope so.

It is a portrait that makes you understand her better than from many speeches and interviews.

I think it's a little more intimate than the news coverage.
