The muzzle selfie ... Uber monitors its drivers in an innovative way

The ride-hailing company Uber required its riders to take a picture of themselves or a "selfie" to verify that they were wearing face masks before being allowed to use the app.

Uber decided to launch the feature to verify passengers wearing face masks in the United States and Canada by the end of September, and to expand in Latin America and other countries after that.

The feature will apply to passengers who have previously been reported not to wear masks.

One of the parties to the trip will be able to cancel it if neither of them complies with this order, whether the driver or the passenger, without facing a penalty.

Currently, Uber drivers must take a selfie with their muzzle every day before work begins.

If the scanner does not detect that the driver is wearing a mask, the application is prohibited from using the application to transport passengers.

Uber announced a "no-muzzle, no-ride" policy on May 18 and extended it indefinitely due to the ongoing pandemic, requiring drivers and passengers to wear a face covering at all times while riding.
